El Salto del Rincón Waterfall

El Salto del Rincón, tucked away in El Peñón, Barahona, drops into a crystal-clear natural pool that's made for swimming among rocks and native greenery. Getting there takes a moderate hike with a river crossing, so wear closed-toe shoes with grip and respect the current. It's the perfect spot to unplug deep in the Sierra de Bahoruco without the crowds. A local guide is strongly recommended for safety and to learn the area. Born from the Rincón River as it tumbles down from Loma El Peñón, this cascade forms cold, crystalline pools framed by rocks and ferns. The community protects it as a green lung and family gathering spot; its name comes from the sharp bend (rincón) where the water takes a sudden leap before continuing toward the Yaque.
