From the Cerro de la Cruz Viewpoint in El Penón, you get the full panorama: the entire Jaya Valley and the Cordillera Septentrional mountain range. You drive up via CJ4J+PR near Tenares, and at the top, the big cross and a few benches wait for you to catch your breath. Bring water, a hat, and your camera — the sun beats down hard and there's zero shade. It's prime sunset territory, when the light turns the mogotes (limestone hills) and coffee conucos (small farms) a deep orange. An authentic slice of Hermanas Mirabal province where the Dominican countryside shows up unfiltered and crowd-free.

This hill has long been a landmark for fishermen and sailors entering the bay. The cross was erected as a navigational beacon and a mariners' vow. Today, the viewpoint serves up the complete postcard: the town, the cayes, and the open sea — making it El Penón's best natural balcony.
