What is Cerro del Manglar Viewpoint?
From the Cerro del Manglar Viewpoint in El Peñón, you command sweeping views over Samaná Bay and the Atlantic. The trail climbs through coastal scrub to a rocky summit — prime turf for whale-watching in season (January–March) and killer sunsets over the cayes. Bring water, closed-toe shoes, and reef-safe sunscreen; zero facilities up top. Reachable by 4x4 or moto from town; the last stretch is on foot. The panorama takes in Los Haitises on the horizon and the full peninsula. Camera mandatory at dawn and golden hour.
How to get there
History
From this hill, locals have long kept watch over the bay where the Atlantic wraps around El Peñón. Fishermen and townsfolk climb up to read the breeze and spot boats heading for Los Haitises. No monument, no plaque — just a natural rock overhang for shade and an unobstructed view of the mangroves that hold the coastline together and feed the village.
