History
El Penón began as a fishing village on Samaná Bay, its people living off the sea and coconut groves. El Pico del Manglar rises as a natural watchtower over wetlands where herons and crabs nest. Today it serves as a community viewpoint for watching the sunset over the mangroves and bay, echoing the ancestral Taíno route toward Los Haitises.
