From El Pico del Penón Viewpoint you get a full panoramic sweep of Samaná Bay and Los Haitises. The climb is steep — best tackled in a 4x4 or on a moto; on foot it's about a 40-minute hike from El Peñón. Bring water, sunscreen, and closed-toe shoes. At sunrise the light paints the mogotes (karst hills) and the sea; at sunset the sun drops behind the sierra. No facilities up top, just breeze and silence. Perfect for landscape shots and whale-spotting in season (Jan–Mar). Respect the environment: pack out your trash and stay on the marked trail.

This natural viewpoint rises from the rocky formation that gives the municipality its name. It has long served as a landmark for seafarers and a mandatory passage between the coast and the interior. Today it offers the most complete vista of the bay, the mangroves, and the Sierra de Bahoruco — the spot where locals gather at sunset to watch the sun sink into the Caribbean.
