History

Los Manglares de El Penón protects the coastal lungs of the municipality, where red and black mangrove roots have nurtured the fish and crab that sustain the Dominican table for generations. The reserve was born from community advocacy and the Ministry of Environment's efforts to halt landfill and logging, ensuring the estuary keeps birthing life and buffering storm surges during hurricane season.
