La Vega
La Vega is one of the Dominican Republic most important cities and capital of its namesake province in the heart of the Cibao Valley. Renowned worldwide for its spectacular carnival celebrations featuring elaborately masked cojuelos devils, La Vega is also the epicenter of Dominican tobacco production and the islands agricultural heartland. Steeped in history as the first city founded by Christopher Columbus in the Americas though at a different location La Vega remains a vibrant testament to Dominican tradition and enterprise.

La Vega fue fundada por Colón en 1494 como La Vega Real, siendo uno de los primeros asentamientos europeos permanentes en América. La ciudad original fue destruida por un terremoto en 1562 y reconstruida en su ubicación actual, conservando siglos de historia en sus tradiciones.
