Cascada El Salto del Guayabal

Cascada El Salto del Guayabal, near Las Guáranas in Duarte province, is a natural waterfall that forms a cool, refreshing swimming hole — perfect for a dip. The trail winds through cocoa and coffee farms, with muddy stretches and loose rock; your best bet is going with a local guide who knows the route and the current. Pack water, snacks, and water shoes (or old sneakers you don't mind getting wet). No restrooms, no vendors — just forest and the sound of rushing water. The falls originate in Loma El Guayabal, deep in the Cordillera Septentrional, where the Guayabal River cuts through rocky formations creating a series of natural cascades. The area sits amid shade-grown coffee plantations and humid forest, a longtime haven for biodiversity and a traditional route for local farmers. Its name comes from the wild guava trees (guayabales) that line its banks. Today it's the flagship ecotourism draw for Las Guáranas, community-managed to protect the watershed and forest.
