The falls originate in Loma El Guayabal, deep in the Cordillera Septentrional, where the Guayabal River cuts through rocky formations creating natural cascades. Its name comes from the wild guava trees (guayabales) that line its banks. Today it's the flagship ecotourism draw for Las Guáranas, community-managed to protect the watershed and forest.
