El Limón Waterfall, Las Matas de Farfán (La Cueva Sector)

El Limón Waterfall, tucked away in the La Cueva sector of Las Matas de Farfán, is a crystal-clear cascade born in the mountains that spills into natural pools perfect for a refreshing dip. Getting there is a mini-adventure: a drive on mixed roads followed by a short hike through local dry forest, led by community guides who protect the area. Pack grippy water shoes or sturdy sneakers, bug spray, and plenty of water — there are zero formal facilities on site. Springing from the Loma de Cabrera ridge, this waterfall emerges between caves and dry forest in the San Juan Valley. For generations, local farmers (*campesinos*) have relied on its waters to irrigate their *conucos* (small family farms) and cool off on the journey. The name comes from the wild lemon trees (*limoneros*) growing along its banks. Today, it’s a mandatory stop on the ecotourism route toward the Sierra, where the ice-cold water washes the travel dust right off you.
