Mirador Cerro de los Cocos

From the Mirador Cerro de los Cocos, the whole San Juan Valley spreads out below you: the Sabaneta Dam, terraced fields climbing the hillsides, and the Sierra de Neiba rising in the distance. The climb is steep — definitely 4x4 or moto territory — but once you're up there, benches and a little kiosk wait with cold drinks. Sunrise and sunset wash the bean and corn fields in golden light. Bring water, sunscreen, and your camera; the breeze up top cuts right through the valley heat. Free access, no set hours. Perfect for landscape shots and breathing easy away from the city noise.

This hill got its name from the coconut palms that once blanketed its slopes. Back in the day, it served as a natural lookout over the San Juan Valley and the Cordillera Central. Today it's the iconic viewpoint of Las Matas de Farfán: from the summit you can read the patchwork of conucos (small family farms), trace the Yaque del Sur River winding through, and even spot Pico Duarte's silhouette on clear days. Sunset up here isn't just recommended — it's practically mandatory.
