Pico del Pájaro Lookout

Pico del Pájaro Lookout serves up the most complete panorama of Las Matas de Farfán and the San Juan Valley. From up top you can read the whole landscape — patchwork fields, the river winding through, and the Sierra de Neiba ridge lining the horizon. The drive-up access makes it an easy sunset run; the late light gilds the crops in gold. Pack water, a hat, and your camera — zero services at the summit. A mandatory stop to get the lay of the southern land and walk away with the region's definitive wide-angle postcard.

A natural high point in the Sierra de Neiba that farmers and charcoal makers from Las Matas have long used as a landmark. It frames a sweeping view of the San Juan Valley and the cordillera. The name comes from the peak's bird-like silhouette and the migratory birds that pass through. Today it operates as a community-run ecotourism lookout.
