What is Playa Madama?
Playa Madama is a small hidden gem in the Samana Peninsula, accessible only by sea or a 30-minute jungle trail. This intimate cove of white sand and crystalline waters is completely surrounded by tropical jungle, creating a movie-like setting few tourists know. The journey to reach it—whether by boat from Las Galeras or walking among century-old ceiba trees—is part of the experience. Upon arrival, the reward is an almost always deserted beach of indescribable beauty.

History
The name Madama comes from colonial times when this coast served as a meeting point between sailors and locals. During the 19th century it was a smuggling zone exploiting its difficult access. It remained practically unknown until the 2000s when the first Las Galeras tour operators began including it in their beach itineraries.
