What is Altos de Chavón Amphitheater?
The Altos de Chavón Amphitheater is the most romantic and iconic open-air venue in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean, built on a cliff overlooking the Chavón River in La Romana with a capacity of 5,000 spectators. This coral stone amphitheater inspired by classical Greek theaters was inaugurated in 1982 with a Frank Sinatra concert and has since hosted performances by artists including Carlos Santana, Julio Iglesias, Sting, Shakira, and Madonna. The setting—the Chavón River, the medieval artist village, and lush vegetation—makes it one of the world's most beautiful places to see a concert.

The amphitheater was built in 1982 as part of the Altos de Chavón project driven by Italian artist Roberto Copa and entrepreneur Charles Bronfman with the backing of Casa de Campo. It was designed by architect Roberto Copa imitating classical Greek amphitheaters.
