Mirador del Río Ocoa (La Loma Sector)

From the Mirador del Río Ocoa up in La Loma, Paraíso, the view cracks wide open — a full 360° sweep over the valley and the Sierra de Neiba. You can trace the river snaking through coffee and avocado farms, with the ocean shimmering on the horizon on clear days. The drive up is a breeze in a car or on a moto via the paved road that climbs the ridge. At the top, there are benches and shade to just sit a while, no rush. Bring water, a hat, and your camera; the cool breeze and the scenery make every hairpin turn worth it.

From La Loma you look down on the valley where the Río Ocoa is born, a lifeline flowing down from the Cordillera Central. This was a historic pass connecting the South and the Cibao; today it’s a natural lookout over the watershed that irrigates Azua and San Juan, a silent witness to generations of campesino foot traffic and the power of the water that defines Paraíso.
