What is Puerto Plata Teleférico?
The Puerto Plata Teleférico is the only cable car in the entire Caribbean and a unique experience that takes visitors from sea level to the summit of Pico Isabel de Torres at 793 meters elevation. The 10-minute ascent over the city and tropical forest culminates in a botanical garden with 360-degree views over Puerto Plata, the north coast, and the northern mountain range. At the summit, a replica of the Christ the Redeemer statue completes a panorama that makes this teleférico one of the most spectacular cable cars in the world.

History
The cable car was inaugurated in 1975 during the government of Joaquín Balaguer as part of the north coast's tourism development. It spans 2 kilometers with an elevation gain of 800 meters. Pico Isabel de Torres, which crowns the ascent, is a scientific reserve with one of the last intact cloud forests in Dominican Republic.
