What is Casa Tostada?
Casa Tostada is one of the most iconic and architecturally unique buildings in the Colonial Zone, famous for its distinctive double-arch Gothic windows—the only ones of their kind in the Americas, an architectural rarity unmatched anywhere in the New World. This 16th-century building was once home to Francisco de Tostado, a Spanish writer and clergyman, and today houses the Museum of Dominican Family Life in the 19th Century, authentically recreating daily life through period furniture, clothing, utensils and artworks.

Built in the early 16th century, Casa Tostada is considered the best-preserved colonial house in Santo Domingo. Its famous double-arch Gothic windows—the only ones existing in the Americas—make it unique in colonial New World architecture. It was the residence of Francisco de Tostado, chronicler of the Indies, before becoming home to the current museum.
